May 2007: |
- The 2007 SkillsUSA-Pennsylvania State Skills and Leadership Competition and Conference was
held in Allentown Pennsylvania this past March. While the conference had a different setup
from prior years, the dedicated team worked hard to make everything run smoothly. We continued
to promote the organization and this resulted in an increase in memberships for this year.
A big Thank You goes out to all of our volunteers that helped to make this year a success.
- Attention All Members! We have found that a majority of the e-mail addresses that you
provided on your application do not work. In order for our organization to make good financial
decisions and not to waste money in
unnecessary
postage, it is imperative that we have your current e-mail
address. We like to utilize e-mail in order to send out notices about upcoming events. To update
your current e-mail address, please contact Marilynne
Hinkel. Thank You
- Would
you like to go to the National Conference? The National Conference remains the culminating
experience for our student members in Pennsylvania. If you would like to go to this year’s
conference please contact our current president/Region I Vice-President Robert
Brinkley for
all of the details.
- Does your company offer a community partners and/or a matching gift program? Our Treasurer
(Marilynne Hinkel) currently participates in her company’s (Kimberley Clark Corporation)
matching gift program. This program enables employees to contribute to a non-profit organization,
like our Association, and the company will match the contribution. For example, if you
donated $1000.00 to our organization your company would match that gift thus giving the
Alumni Association a $2000.00 gift. For more details about this program and a listing of
the partners, which we know about, please visit our fundraising section. If you do not
see your company listed but they do have this program, please contact Marilynne
Hinkel to give us the name of your employer. Remember that all of our funds go to help the students
in the state of Pennsylvania.
- The first issue of The Volunteer, our newsletter, stalled in production this past year.
We still want to produce this newsletter to send out to our members on a bi-yearly basis.
If you would like to contribute an article for this newsletter, please contact
us.
- Congratulations go out to our former President Dan E. Arndt for graduating with Honors
from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Dan completed his degree requirements in Secondary
Education – Comprehensive
English and will begin looking for a position as an English teacher in a high school. We wish
Dan all of the best as he embarks on his new career.
